The electrified new Renault Clio will be capable of averaging almost 70mpg when the latest version of the iconic French supermini arrives later in the year.

Priced from £21,295 the new Clio features Renault’s latest design and comes with chunkier looks set off with striking light clusters.

The Clio E-Tech has a full hybrid powertrain which develops 145bhp and is officially rated at 67.3mpg with emissions of 96g/km.

Renault says the latest Clio can use its electric motor up to 80 percent of the time in cities – cutting fuel consumption by up to 40 percent compared to a conventional petrol engine – with the benefits of near silent running and no need to plug in to charge the battery.

It can be fitted with up to 17 ADAS driver assistance functions, including those usually found on much larger and more expensive vehicles, such as adaptive cruise control, blind spot warning, and rear cross traffic alert.

The car will be available in three trims - Evolution, Techno and Esprit Alpine – with all models having alloy wheels, electrically-folding and heated door mirrors, hands-free key card, automatic air conditioning, full LED headlights and rear lights.

Renault’s Easy Link touchscreen with built-in navigation and wireless smartphone integration with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay compatibility is also standard, as are one-touch electric front windows and an ECO driving mode that optimises environmentally-friendly driving.

The Evolution trim has a 7-inch digital driver display, 7-inch Easy Link touchscreen, 16-inch alloy wheels and rear parking sensors.

Mid-range Techno trim adds features that include a reversing camera, 17-inch alloy wheels, front and rear parking sensors, shark fin antenna, wireless phone charger, and Renault’s Multi-Sense set-up with ambient lighting. It costs £22,695.

At the top of the range is the Esprit Alpine, which is priced from £24,095 and is the new level of trim that recently made its UK debut in the Renault Austral E-Tech full hybrid.

With the Alpine brand’s sporting hallmarks, it's set apart by a grey front blade, sports-style heated front seats with blue over stitching and Alpine detailing.

There’s also a heated steering wheel, 10-inch digital driver display, 9.3-inch Easy Link touchscreen, adaptive cruise control, blind spot warning and rear cross traffic alert.

Guillaume Sicard, managing director of Renault in the UK, said: “Clio is at the very heart of Renault, being one of our most well-loved and successful models, and the new Clio E-Tech full hybrid is a milestone in the model’s long-running story.”

“It combines the Clio’s trademark attributes with the efficient technology that supports our customers as they transition to a car that offers a significant level of electrification, making the model more relevant than ever.”
