Introducing The All-New Kia XCeed

It comes as no great surprise to see that Kia, a car manufacturer enjoying healthy growth at the moment, are releasing a compact SUV that is based around the all-new Ceed hatchback. Perhaps the most important change is the removal of the apostrophe, which is bound to cause controversy among the Kia faithful.

Facetious jokes aside, the new crossover, aptly named the 'XCeed', aims to be one of the most hi-tech cars in its class by adding features that are usually optional extras on rivals. On top of this, a plug-in hybrid option is set to be released in early 2020, alongside more conventional mild-hybrid power trains.

The XCeed is now on sale, contact your local Evans Halshaw Kia dealer to book a test drive.

The Hybrid Revolution

As part of the move towards a more efficient future, Kia have announced that the XCeed will be available with two different hybrid power trains from 2020. The first option is a plug-in hybrid, which means you have access to electric power over a fair distance (range to be confirmed). Although the system needs plugging in to recharge the batteries, as the name suggests, you get better range over a more conventional hybrid, which is recharged by the petrol/diesel engine.

There is also a mild-hybrid option, which assists the engine when moving off (it doesn't need plugging in). Range is yet to be confirmed, but it will lower the emissions of the vehicle, while providing a welcome bit of punch in slow moving  traffic.

Until then, buyers will be able to choose from three petrol engines: a 118bhp 1.0-litre; a 138bhp 1.4-litre, and a fruitier 201bhp 1.6-litre. There is also two diesel options in the shape of a 1.6-litre that comes in either 116bhp or 134bhp guises. Each engine is available with a standard six-speed manual, or a super-slick seven-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox. However, the 1.0-litre is only available with a manual.
