Introducing the Jeep Renegade
Jeep has a rich history for creating dependable, iconic SUVs that feature textbook chunky looks and unmistakable design details.
The Renegade is a more compact SUV from the American manufacturer, looking to bring new buyers to the brand synonymous with excellent off-road capability.
With a choice of engine options, including plug-in hybrid versions, and textbook Jeep style and off-road ability, the Renegade is yet another decent choice for those wanting a solid SUV.
Design and Practicality
Sticking to textbook Jeep design, the Renegade is chunky, but it's got some softer edges like you'd expect in this class. It still features the iconic seven slot grille, so there's no mistaking the Renegade for another brand.
The clever design means, although it may look chunky, its footprint is similar to a small hatchback, meaning those wanting a more compact SUV will get on well with the Renegade.
Practicality is also good, with 5-doors as standard and a 351-litre boot, which decreases slightly to 330 litres for plug-in hybrid versions. However, fold the rear seats, and depending on version, you'll get an enhanced 1,297 litres of space.
Interior, Technology, and Safety
Technology in the Jeep Renegade is also generous, as you get a fully-HD 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster as standard, along with a 10.1-inch central ultra HD infotainment screen, to control the Renegade's various settings.
Of course, to make life easier, the Renegade comes standard with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, so you can stay connected to your music and settings with ease if you'd prefer.
There's plenty of safety kit too, which consists of the following as standard:
- Forward collision warning plus mitigation
- Lane departure warning plus
- Traffic sign recognition
- Blind Spot Detection
Whilst optional kit is also available, in the form of:
- Park & Unpark Assist
- Front & Rear Parking sensors
- Adaptive cruise control
Engines and Performance
Keeping things compact and simple, the Renegade offers two engine options.
These come in the form of a 1.5-litre, 4-cylinder petrol automatic option, which produces 128bhp. This engine can return up to 51mpg in terms of economy and takes 9.7 seconds to get from 0 to 62mph.
Alternatively, there's an enhanced 1.3-litre plug-in hybrid version that offers 240bhp, enhancing economy and acceleration. That's because it offers up to 148mpg, along with up to 50 miles of fully-electric range. It also does the 0 to 62mph sprint in 7.1 seconds.
What's more, the plug-in hybrid versions are all-wheel drive, ensuring traction is enhanced, ideal if you want to take your Renegade off-road.
Charging
The charging of the Jeep Renegade will depend on your charging set-up or method.
Although, thanks to the Mode 3 cable, you can charge your Jeep Renegade in as little as 1 hour and 40 minutes with 7.4 kW charging.
