Introducing the new Jeep Compass
Sitting as a mid-point in the Jeep range, the Compass is ideal for families, offering the typical Jeep style and presence, just more polished, and sophisticated.
Unlike many SUVs of the modern era, the Compass stays true to Jeep heritage and offers excellence when it comes to off-road ability.
And when the road is more conventional, it can deal with that easily enough too, complemented with decent standard features.
Design and Practicality
Jeep have never had a problem with design thanks to their textbook chunky SUV looks, and you'd expect nothing less from a brand that is literally named what most people call SUVs.
However, the Avenger definitely has some more polish to it, it's still unmistakably a Jeep, but offers more sophistication in its styling, which is certainly no bad thing.
And with a choice of petrol, plug-in hybrid and electric powertrains to choose from, you can tailor an Avenger to your ideal requirements.
And, as for practicality, space is good and is enhanced by a 355-litre boot, increasing to 1,252 litres with the rear seats folded flat. You get 25 litres more space as standard in the non-electric version, again increasing to 1,277 litres with the rear seats folded.
Interior, Technology, and Safety
Interior technology and standard specification is impressive within the Jeep Compass. There's a fully-digital 10.1-inch instrument cluster that comes as standard on all models, and gives the cabin a properly modern vibe.
This is complemented by a 10.1-inch 'Uconnect' infotainment touchscreen, which comes with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto as standard, so staying connected is simple and easy.
As for safety, the Jeep Compass received a five-star EURO NCAP safety rating, thanks to its generous safety feature offerings, which include the following in the range:
- Rearview camera
- Forward collision warning
- Front and rear parking sensors
- Adaptive cruise control
- Automatic high-beam headlights
Engines and Performance
There are two engine choices available with the Jeep Compass.
A 1.5-litre mild hybrid which produces 128bhp via a 4-cylinder petrol engine with front-wheel drive and an automatic transmission. This offers 0 to 62mph in 10 seconds, whilst returning up to 50mpg.
Alternatively, there's a 1.3-litre 4-cylinder plug-in hybrid which offers more performance, dropping the 0 to 62mph time to 7.3 seconds, whilst offering up to 148mpg on a combined cycle. You'll also be able to get up to 34 miles of total electric range.
As with all Jeep models, the Compass is excellent off-road, along with being more than capable on it, too, offering comfort, tech and plenty of driver assistance features.
Charging
Charging your Jeep Compass will all depend on your chosen method and your personal charging facilities. But once charged, you should be able to enjoy up to 34 miles of electric only range.
