New Specification Details Released for Hyundai KONA Electric

Prices of the all-electric version of the Hyundai KONA small SUV have been announced, with the six model line-up costing from £34,995.

That’s comparable with the current 1.6-litre top specification petrol hybrid versions, and the electric range will eventually include sporty N Line variants.

With a long range 65kWh battery fitted, the KONA Electric in entry-level Advance trim is priced from £38,595 while top specification Ultimate models will cost from £43,095.

The N Line versions, which are due to arrive in 2024, will be priced from £40,395 and £43,095 for N Line S models.

With a range of up to 319 miles, the KONA Electric has a boot capacity similar to that of the rest of the new KONA line up at 466 litres with the seats up and a maximum of 1,300 litres with them folded.

There's also a 'frunk' under the bonnet, which adds a further 27 litres of cargo space.

Top speed when fitted with the larger battery is 107mph with a 0 to 62mph acceleration time of 7.8 seconds, while the lower powered battery is a second slower with a maximum of 101mph.

Maximum range for the 48kWh model is 223 miles. Recharging times for both power specifications are still to be announced, although Hyundai says they will be quicker than the previous model.

All KONA models are equipped with standard dual 12.3-inch panoramic display screens with full Over-the-Air (OTA) updates and the Connected Car Navigation Cockpit (ccNC) which will also be able to support future Feature on Demand applications.

Fitted as standard across the all-new KONA range is a standard navigation and infotainment system comprising a 12.3-inch screen, Bluetooth, DAB radio, LIVE services, MapCare, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, steering wheel controls and front and rear USB-C charging points.

The new KONA is also available with a Digital Key, which can use a compatible device to lock, unlock and start the vehicle. The device uses near-field communication, Bluetooth low energy and ultra-wide band protocols on smartphones or smartwatches, which give a high level of security.

The car is also available with EV specific SmartSense equipment, in addition to the safety systems introduced on the petrol and hybrid models.

These include Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist 2.0 which adds Junction Crossing with automatic braking if a risk of collision is detected with vehicles approaching from the side, lane change side lane and Oncoming automatic evasive steering actions if collisions are detected during lane changing or from oncoming traffic and Evasive Steering Assistance if a risk of collision with a pedestrian on the road shoulder is detected.

All new KONA Electric models are also available with Highway Driving Assist 2, providing assistance in keeping the vehicle correctly positioned in lane and an improved Highway Lane Change Assist functionality.

The new KONA has also just scooped a number of awards at the Auto Express New Car Awards, being named Car of the Year as well as Small SUV and Small Company Car of the Year.

As well as the honours for the new KONA, the Hyundai TUCSON also carried off the Mid-size SUV of the Year award, while the Hyundai i10 was named as City Car of the Year.
