Introducing the new Changan Deepal S07
The Changan Deepal S07 puts a fresh spin on the all-electric family SUV. Arriving in the UK as the first model from Deepal – Changan's dedicated EV sub-brand – the Deepal S07 is a practical five-seat electric SUV built to deliver a polished driving experience and generous standard equipment. In fact, the Deepal S07 arrives in the UK in a single, fully loaded trim. There are no options to configure – everything from the panoramic roof to the ventilated seats is included as standard.
At 4.75 metres long, the Deepal S07 is in the same mid-size bracket as some of the most popular electric SUVs on sale today, and yet it brings its own distinct character to the segment. For drivers looking for a well-rounded electric SUV that doesn't ask them to compromise on space, technology or comfort, the Deepal S07 is well worth getting to know.
Design and Practicality
The Deepal S07's styling takes a deliberately European approach - broad-shouldered and well-balanced with clean, flowing lines and sharp LED lighting at both ends.
A full-width rear light strip, electric flush door handles and a large panoramic roof with an electric sunshade all add to the sophisticated look. Five colour options are available as standard, including the imaginatively named Comet White, Eclipse Black and Nebula Green.
Inside, the Deepal S07 is impressively roomy. The long 2,900mm wheelbase creates a comfortable, airy cabin, while the boot offers 510 litres of luggage space. There's also a 125-litre front storage compartment under the bonnet, where you can keep muddy boots or charging cables entirely separate from your main luggage.
The rear seats split 60:40 for added versatility when you need to carry longer loads. Thoughtful touches are everywhere, from the heated and ventilated vegan leather front seats to the rear air conditioning vents and passenger seat adjustment controls. This is a practical, well-considered space for families and daily drivers alike.
Technology and Safety
Technology is central to the Deepal S07 experience. A 15.6-inch rotating central touchscreen serves as the hub for navigation, media and vehicle settings. This is supported by an augmented reality head-up display that projects directions and alerts onto the windscreen.
Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are both standard, as is a 40-watt wireless charging pad and an intelligent voice assistant. The Deepal app, meanwhile, enables remote vehicle control, including setting the cabin temperature before you step in.
The Deepal S07 holds a full five-star Euro NCAP safety rating, with particularly high marks for child occupant protection – worth knowing if the family car shortlist is what brought you here.
Standard driver assistance systems include autonomous emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, lane departure warning, emergency lane keeping, rear cross-traffic alert and a 360-degree camera system and multiple sensors for parking. Unlike most cars, which reset their driver assistance systems every time you start the engine, the Deepal S07 remembers your preferences. Set lane assist and cruise control once, and they stay however you left them - an everyday benefit that's rarer than it sounds.
Powertrains and Performance
The Deepal S07 runs on a single electric motor, which powers the rear wheels, producing 215bhp and 236lb ft of torque for smooth, responsive performance. From a standing start, it reaches 62mph in 7.9 seconds, which is about right for a family-focused SUV.
Eco, Comfort and Sport driving modes are also on offer, but it's Comfort that most drivers are likely to settle in for good. The tuning at that setting is deliberately calibrated for effortless progress rather than an artificially sharp response. With its 80kWh battery pack, the Deepal S07 achieves a WLTP range of 295 miles, enough to cover most real-world journeys.
A towing capacity of 1,500kg puts the Deepal S07 in the same bracket as many traditional family SUVs – enough for a trailer, small caravan, or horse box – which remains a genuine advantage in the electric SUV segment.
Charging
The Deepal S07 supports both AC and DC charging, giving you the flexibility to top up in a range of situations. At home, an 11kW on-board AC charger lets you charge overnight. That's the ideal way to start each day with a full battery without thinking too hard about it.
DC rapid charging is also available when you're further from home at up to 95kW, with a 30 to 80 percent charge in around 35 minutes at a public rapid charger. Rapid charging is often used less frequently than expected, but it becomes invaluable on longer journeys, where a short stop can add enough range to comfortably reach your destination.
The Deepal app allows you to keep an eye on charging status remotely, plan routes with charging stops in mind and precondition the cabin so it's at the right temperature before you hop in. Vehicle-to-load (V2L) power output is also supported, giving you enough power to run a kettle, a portable drill or even a small electric heater, which is handy for a weekend adventure in the back of beyond or on a job site during the week.
