Introducing the new BYD Dolphin Surf

BYD Dolphin Surf Side Alternate

Dolphin Surf is the most accessible model in the BYD range. It's an all-electric hatchback, featuring plenty of cutting-edge tech, wrapped up in a compact package, making it perfect for dealing with city life.

Despite its modest size, the Dolphin Surf uses a clever e-Platform 3.0 chassis, meaning the cabin and boot capacity is comparable to cars from the class above, offering a healthy amount of space and enhanced practicality.

Additionally, the BYD Dolphin Surf features a comprehensive specification, again comparable to cars in higher pricepoints and classes above, ensuring this modern compact city car offers incredible value for money.

Design and Practicality

BYD Dolphin Surf Rear

BYD Dolphin Surf has clean, crisp lines, with horizontal lines that help create a bold personality for such a compact car.

Angular from all angles, the car showcases a modern vibe, which suits its fully-electric nature. But, it's not just a pretty face, as with a 2,500mm wheelbase, it matches larger hatchbacks, ensuring cabin space is enhanced.

Complemented further by five doors as standard, and a 308-litre boot, which can be increased to 1,037 litres with the rear seats folded, the BYD Dolphin Surf excels in the practicality stakes, ideal for those who want a family car for dealing with city life.

Interior, Technology, and Safety

BYD Dolphin Surf Interior

An entry-level model, perhaps, but the BYD Dolphin Surf goes above and beyond in its standard specification, again offering a package you'd only usually see on cars from classes above.

There's a signature 10.1-inch rotating touchscreen, which includes favourites like Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, meaning you can get to grips with what you know, fast and simple. This is also complemented by a digital instrument cluster, too.

And, as for safety, all models of the BYD Dolphin Surf come with emergency lane keep assist, collision warning, lane-keeping active cruise control, and automatic emergency braking, ensuring a fine collection of safety features for a car of this size and price point.

Range and Performance

There's a choice of power outputs available with the BYD Dolphin Surf. The entry point combines a 30kWh battery with a 65kW motor - this is the 'Active' model. It can accelerate from 0 to 62mph in 11.1 seconds.

'Boost' versions offer the longest range, and feature the same 65kW motor, but this time with a 43.2kWh battery. These versions accelerate from 0 to 62mph in 12.1 seconds.

Range-topping 'Comfort' models use the larger 43.2kWh battery with a more powerful 115kW motor. These offer the most performance, with 0 to 62mph taking 9.1 seconds.

Charging

There is a maximum DC charging rate of 65kW in the 'Active' and 85kW in the 'Boost and Comfort', so regardless of battery capacity, you can charge the BYD Dolphin Surf from 10% to 80% state of charge in just 30 minutes.

Three-phase 11kW AC charging is standard across the range. This means a 100% refill from 0% can take just three and a half hours on the 'Active' model or five hours on the 'Boost' and 'Comfort' models.
