Design and Practicality
The ATTO 3 EVO is similar in shape and size to the original, but with a more refined exterior that brings it closer in character to BYD's newer models. Inside, the cabin feels different. The most noticeable change is the removal of the old gear selector, replaced by a steering column stalk that frees up centre console storage — a small thing, but one that makes life that little bit easier.
Boot space has grown to 490 litres — 50 more than before — despite the drive motor moving to the rear axle. That same engineering decision also unlocks a 95-litre front compartment under the bonnet, which is handy for keeping charging cables out of the boot.
Both trim levels come with vegan leather seats, electric adjustment and heating as standard, and the ambient lighting makes the car feel more expensive than it actually is. For families who spend a lot of time on the road, this level of practicality is a major selling point.
Technology and Safety
Technology is strong across both trim levels. The 15.6-inch rotating touchscreen is one of the largest in this class and runs built-in Google services as standard, including Maps, Assistant, and the Play Store. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are also supported. In front of the driver sits an 8.8-inch digital instrument cluster, and throughout the cabin you'll find four USB-C ports and a cooled wireless charging pad on the centre console.
There's no shortage of safety features either. Every ATTO 3 EVO comes with a 360-degree surround-view camera, front and rear parking sensors, adaptive cruise control, lane departure warning and automatic emergency braking. A heat pump is standard on both trims — useful for maintaining range during the freezing temperatures of a British winter. Excellence adds a head-up display for those who like to keep speed and navigation in their line of sight. BYD backs the whole car with a highly reassuring six-year, 93,750-mile warranty, with the Blade Battery separately covered for eight years or 155,350 miles.
Range and Performance
Both versions of the ATTO 3 EVO switch to rear-wheel drive, improving balance and control through corners. Built on BYD's E-Platform 3.0 with an 800V architecture, it's clearly a more capable car than its predecessor.
The Design trim runs a single rear motor with 309bhp, hitting 0 to 62mph in 5.5 seconds — brisk for a family SUV. Excellence steps up to dual-motor all-wheel drive, with 443bhp, trimming that sprint to 3.9 seconds. The instant torque is particularly useful in stop-start traffic and when you're pulling onto the motorway. A five-link rear suspension setup on both variants improves ride quality and handling over the outgoing model.
While the ATTO 3 EVO delivers more power than a hot hatch, the biggest draw for most buyers will be the refinement and real-world range, not the performance figures. Both trims share the same 74.8kWh Blade Battery, with a WLTP range of up to 316 miles in Design and 292 miles in Excellence.
Charging
With its new 800V architecture, the ATTO 3 EVO can charge at up to 220kW — double the outgoing model. At a compatible rapid charger, that's 10 to 80 percent in around 25 minutes, or roughly 100 miles added in 10 to 15 minutes. At home, an 11kW wallbox lets you plug in overnight for a full charge, and this will soon become as routine as charging your mobile.
Both trims also support Vehicle-to-Load, so you can power devices, such as electric bikes, camping gear and tools, directly from the car's battery when you're out exploring the back of beyond. The built-in heat pump helps protect the range in colder weather by drawing warmth from the air rather than the battery.
