Compared to the regular Caddy, the Maxi has an extra 0.7 cubic metres of load capacity and around 350mm more loading length. The additional metal behind the occupants does blunt the performance and efficiency of the 1.6-litre and 2.0-litre diesel engines to a degree, but you should still see over 50mpg on a combined cycle.
The Caddy Maxi's interior is typical of a modern Volkswagen in that it's made from quality materials. Some of the older versions with a lower specification can feel a bit spartan compared to newer examples, so it's worth seeking out models with features such as rear parking sensors, cruise control and a colour touchscreen.
