Introduced in 2019, the Taycan is a striking fully-electric sports car produced by iconic German manufacturer, Porsche.
Available first and foremost as a Sports Saloon, you can also get a Taycan Sport Turismo, which is essentially Porsche speak for estate or tourer. There is even a Taycan Cross Turismo, which is more of a crossover estate, but somehow manages to be way cooler than that suggests.

Engines and Driving Experience
Due to the Porsche Taycan range being fully-electric, there are no traditional internal combustion engines (ICE) available. Instead, the standard Taycan features a highly-powerful electric motor, whilst all other variants use dual electric motors. Each model offers high performance and a driver-focused experience:
- Taycan: 402bhp with overboost, 0 to 62mph in 5.4 seconds, range between 220-300 miles
- Taycan 4 Sport Turismo: 469bhp with overboost, 0 to 62mph in 5.1 seconds, range between 242-336 miles
- Taycan 4S: 523bhp with overboost, 0 to 62mph in 4.0 seconds, range between 208-326 miles
- Taycan 4S Cross Turismo: 563bhp with overboost, 0 to 62mph in 4.1 seconds, range between 241-331 miles
- Taycan GTS/Taycan GTS Sport Turismo: 590bhp with overboost, 0 to 62mph in 3.7 seconds, range between 273-313 miles
- Taycan Turbo: 671bhp with overboost, 0 to 62mph in 3.2 seconds, range between 238-309 miles

Practicality and Running Costs
Despite most electric cars having to pinch space from the boot and interior in order to house the required motors and tech, the Taycan still manages to offer plenty of space for four adults and 366 litres of boot space - about the same as a family hatchback.
There is a 81-litre frunk too, ideal for a weekend or cabin bag, giving the Taycan Saloon a total 447 litres of luggage space. This is a lot less than the Tesla Model S which offers 894 litres, in the form of a 774-litre boot and a 150-litre frunk.
There is a larger 446-litre boot and 84-litre frunk in the Taycan Sport Turismo, and Taycan Cross Turismo, although the Turbo and Turbo S variants have reduced 406-litre boot spaces.
With around 200-300 miles of range in most Taycan variants, models will still be a lot cheaper to run than that of conventional Porsche petrol-powered sports cars. Although purchasing a home wall box and accessories can add up to an expensive initial outlay, nudging four figures in some cases.
We would recommend Stratstone Porsche for servicing, which again should be cheaper than a regular combustion engined Porsche due to being every 20,000 miles or two years, and the fact no engine is needing to be serviced.
Interior, Technology and Safety
Not only is the Taycan striking to look at on the outside, but the interior also sports the wow factor too.
A large fully-digital instrument display is complemented further by a large central infotainment touchscreen, along with a smaller accompanying screen for the air-con controls to finish off the state-of-the-art vibe.
As standard, you get sat-nav, part leather and electrically adjustable seats, along with all the digital touchscreens mentioned previously. But in true Porsche fashion there are plenty of tasty options available, so taking time to find a higher specification is a good idea when buying used to get some of the more sought-after options. These include heated seats, full leather, Bose sound system, Burmester surround sound, wireless Apple CarPlay and adaptive cruise control.
And if you were wondering about safety, you don't have to worry with any Taycan as it scored the full five-star score from Euro NCAP thanks to features including:
