What is Purple Tuesday?
Purple Tuesday is a global movement and change initiative that is dedicated to improving the customer experiences of disabled people and their families 365 days a year. The initiative inspires leaders and staff from organisations across all sectors and of all sizes to promote awareness, develop understanding, and implement solutions for better accessibility in their customer environments.
Purple Tuesday is celebrated on the first Tuesday of November, this year it falls on the 7th November 2023. As the first official partner to market within the automotive industry, Pendragon PLC, whose brands include Evans Halshaw, Pendragon Vehicle Management, Stratstone and CarStore, has confirmed that it is aiming to be a trailblazer of Disability Inclusion in the automotive industry.
Steven Spicer, National Franchise Director at Pendragon PLC, said “We want to be able to provide the gift of movement to all our customers, but for some of our disabled customers and their families it has been a challenge. Moving forwards, we want to ensure that for our disabled customers we provide the best positive customer experience that supports and meets their needs.”
“Our associates will have access to a broad and rich range of disability awareness and training opportunities, to help support their own personal and professional development in this area. Our end goal as a business is to create accessibility for all.”
“The ambition for Pendragon is to be the first automotive Disability Confident Retailer to have 100% of our portfolio on the disability confidence accreditation journey by the end of 2024, setting standards for others in the industry.”
Mike Adams OBE, founder, and creator of Purple Tuesday, said: “For many disabled people, driving or having access to a vehicle that suits their needs can mean the difference between isolation and freedom. Safe and comfortable travel can unlock experiences – from the ordinary to the incredible – that many people take for granted.”
“Welcoming Pendragon PLC to Purple Tuesday as our first automotive retail partner is an exciting moment for us, as it sends a clear signal that every sector can, and should, strive to provide an excellent experience for all disabled customers and recognise the value they bring.”
