Introducing the all-new Kia Sportage hybrid and plug-in hybrid
As Kia's range of hybrid and electric cars continues to expand, it comes as no surprise to see the all-new Sportage offer full hybrid (HEV) powertrain to its buyers, alongside the familiar regular petrol version.
Offering the most power within the Sportage range, unlike a PHEV, the HEV variant won't need to be plugged in as it uses regenerative braking to recharge the batteries, enhancing fuel economy.
The best part? HEV models still benefit from the industry-leading Kia 7-year warranty, giving you peace of mind whilst enjoying your all-new Sportage. Boot space may be slightly reduced (591 reduced to 587 litres) compared to the internal combustion engine (ICE) variants due to the additional space taken up by the batteries, but it's not a bad compromise.
Range and Performance
With a total power output of 235bhp, the HEV variant offers the best performance figures and comes with an all-wheel option, too.
The beauty of the HEV is that is can also drive short distances on electric power alone, ideal for boosting fuel economy and aiding town and city driving.
The punchy engine drops the 0 to 62mph time to 8.1 seconds too, meaning it is quicker than the regular Kia Sportage petrol.
It is said that a PHEV version will also join the range in due course, and we will update this page with that information when available.
Charging
As the HEV is a full hybrid vehicle, you will not need to plug in to enjoy the enhanced benefits.
Instead, the Kia Sportage HEV uses regen braking, which would usually means energy is wasted, but in this case, the energy is repurposed to aid economy.
