Introducing the new Jeep Compass
With classic Jeep roots and a more refined posture, the Jeep Compass is a family SUV for those who love the brand's distinctive identity, with standout features such as its easily recognisable seven-slot grille, commanding ride height, and signature off-road styling. It sits nicely between the smaller Avenger and larger Grand Cherokee, offering a confident SUV that's ready for the back roads, but equally at home navigating the urban landscape.
With three types of distinct powertrain options available to meet the demands of a range of drivers, including a four-wheel drive (4x4) all-electric option known as the 4xe, plus a whole host of standard tech across each trim, the Jeep Compass offers plenty for buyers looking for a practical mid-size SUV loaded with off-road character.
Design and Practicality
Although Jeep has softened the Compass model's styling over the years, it still features design touches that make it unmistakably North American in character. Its muscular, upright silhouette is not only practical but also nods to its military heritage, while chunky wheel arches reinforce its functional Jeep identity.
Inside, the Compass has firm but comfortable seating, designed to keep you in place when attacking country tracks, while in the back three can sit abreast without getting on top of each other. It also has useful rubber-lined storage so that items don't slide about.
Thanks to the boxy silhouette, the boot is a spacious 550 litres (515 litres in the 4xe), opening up with the seats folded to either 1,600 litres in the mild hybrid and plug-in hybrid, while the all-electric offers slightly more at 1,695 litres, making the Compass a practical choice for longer holidays and transporting larger items.
Technology and Safety
When it comes to technology, the Jeep Compass blends a 16-inch infotainment touchscreen with physical buttons, making it ideal for those who love technology but still appreciate the tactile control of an ordinary push-button. The Compass also comes with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay as standard, plus a slim 10.25-inch digital display for the driver.
There is a decent level of standard equipment throughout, which includes a rear armrest and adaptive cruise control. Higher-spec trims feature heated front seats, a heated steering wheel and wireless phone charging.
The Jeep Compass also comes with a range of safety features and advanced driver assistant systems (ADAS) to ensure that you get safely from A to B.
- Adaptive cruise control
- Lane Positioning Assist
- Automatic Emergency Braking
- Forward collision warning
- Level 2 Autonomous Driving
Range and Performance
The Compass comes with four powertrain options, three with front-wheel drive (FWD) and one with four-wheel drive (4x4), catering to a range of buyers. There is a turbocharged 1.2-litre petrol mild hybrid with 143bhp and a 0 to 62mph sprint in 10.3 seconds, while fuel economy is around 49mpg.
Next is a plug-in hybrid combining a 1.6-litre petrol engine and small electric motor, delivering 221bhp, a 0 to 62mph time of 8 seconds and 94mpg. You also get 57 miles of all-electric range, making it ideal for short commutes and school drop-offs.
The FWD all-electric comes with 211bhp and an 8.5-second 0 to 62mph sprint, alongside a 285-mile WLTP range from its 73kWh battery. The second all-electric delivers 370bhp from dual motors and a quick 5.4-second sprint. Its range is an impressive 375 miles WLTP. Its focus is off-road, with an extra 10mm of ride height and improved traction to tackle muddy tracks and rough terrain, making it well suited to families who adventure at the weekend.
Charging
When it comes to powering up your Jeep, the Compass offers quick and convenient options across its electrified range. The plug-in hybrid can be charged in less than three hours with a standard 7.4kW wallbox, whereas the FWD and 4xe Compass electric models can do a rapid 20 to 80 percent charge in 35 minutes and 31 minutes respectively. Ideal for short stop-offs during longer excursions. Home charging takes longer for the all-electric models, making overnight use the most convenient option.
There is also a MY JEEP® app that helps you schedule and monitor charging, pre-condition the cabin for optimal comfort, and track energy consumption and performance in real time.
