Introducing the BYD Ti7 DM-p

BYD has entered the large SUV chat with the all-new BYD Ti7 DM-p. It is positioned as a practical option for those who have growing families and for weekend adventurers. Or both. And, with some details emerging, it's known that its initial incarnation will be a plug-in hybrid (PHEV) with three rows of seats, capable of comfortably transporting seven adults on long journeys.

It features a large SUV frame with styling that isn't too far removed from the other boxy seven-seater offerings from its rivals, so you can instantly see which car class it's positioning itself against from the get-go.

As BYD’s flagship model, it positions itself just above the popular BYD SEAL U DM-i and BYD Sealion 7 models, aiming to be a strong contender in the large SUV market.

Design and Practicality

Bulky and boxy, the BYD Ti7 DM-p is no crossover, with styling that offers function over fluid lines. Its silhouette is definitely a nod to large SUVs, with a front face featuring dual-layer LED lighting above a chunky, titanium-finish lower bumper section.

On the sides, there are rugged-looking wheel-arch extensions and strong horizontal-line DNA. At the back, BYD has added a spare-wheel carrier mounted on the boot, ticking one of the boxes for those off-road looks you’ll find throughout the BYD Ti7 DM-p.

Although details are limited at the moment, we can guess by its large frame that the interior will be spacious, with three rows of seats offering plenty of legroom and headroom, so that all travellers can ride in luxury.

Technology and Safety

The BYD Ti7 DM-p will feature a central 15.6-inch infotainment touchscreen that's famous for rotating from landscape to portrait mode via voice command. It'll feature BYD's DiLink ecosystem, which serves as the SUV's digital brain.

The Android-based interface allows drivers to download and run familiar mobile apps directly from the car's display, as well as allowing cloud-based connectivity for remote vehicle management, where you'll be able to lock/unlock doors and check battery status away from the car.

Like the BYD Sealion 7, the BYD Ti7 DM-p is expected to feature an upmarket-appointed interior with plush materials such as vegan or Nappa leather. Its seven-seat arrangement can adapt to changing lifestyles, offering ample boot space with row three folded, and a huge amount of carry space with rows two and three folded.

Powertrains and Performance

The BYD Ti7 DM-p will be introduced with a single hybrid powertrain, consisting of a 1.5-litre four-cylinder turbocharged engine paired with a duo of front- and rear-axle electric motors, giving the big SUV AWD capability. This combination will propel the BYD Ti7 DM-p from 0 to 62mph in a staggering 4.8 seconds, which is quicker than some modern hot hatches.

Performance aside, BYD claims that with light city driving, the BYD Ti7 DM-p will deliver a WLTP electric range of 102 miles and a real-world driving range of 79 miles. While official figures haven't been confirmed, it's predicted that the BYD Ti7 DM-p will have a long combined range; ideal for regular journeys throughout the week.

Charging

With BYD a pioneer in battery design, including its blade battery technology, the BYD Ti7 DM-p is expected to have charging times similar to those of the BYD SEAL U DM-i hybrid, with a 10 to 80 percent charge in around 30 minutes.

The BYD Ti7 DM-p also comes with Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) technology, turning your SUV into a mobile power bank. Adventurers can plug in everything from camping stoves and lights to games consoles for the kids, making it perfect for outdoor trips with home comforts.
