Introducing the new BYD SEAL U DM-i
The new BYD SEAL U DM-i is a spacious and comfortable family SUV. It is the brand’s first plug-in hybrid vehicle (PHEV) in Europe, and with a premium interior and high level of standard equipment, represents excellent value in its class.
For the first time, UK consumers can experience all the benefits of BYD’s advanced Super DM (Dual Mode) Technology, which sets a new standard in intelligent plug-in hybrid innovation for exceptional energy efficiency, low fuel consumption and motoring performance.
Design and Practicality
Textbook oceanic aesthetics can be seen in the upcoming BYD SEAL U DM-i, like they can in all other BYD models.
BYD SEAL U DM-i features double U-shaped lights, whilst the rear exudes sophistication thanks to a continuous tail light design, showcasing a refined waterdrop matrix pattern.
The family SUV sits on aerodynamically styled 19-inch alloy wheels, which not only look good, but also aid efficiency, minimising drag.
Practicality is also impressive with a standard boot size of 552-litres, which can be increased to 1,440-litres with the rear seats folded flat, ensuring family luggage needs will not be a problem with the BYD SEAL U DM-i SUV.
Technology and Safety
The interior of the BYD SEAL U DM-i showcases a futuristic vibe, with elegant design details such as the oceanic crystal gear lever, along with fine practicality and cutting-edge technology.
The focal point is an impressive central rotating digital touchscreen that acts as a control hub for your BYD SEAL U DM-i SUV.
It offers intelligent voice multifunctional features, along with smooth and enjoyable actions to ensure time spent in the BYD SEAL U DM-i is every bit as enjoyable as it should be.
A fully-digital instrument binnacle is also present, along with an advanced head-up display for added safety. Safety is enhanced further with a EURO NCAP five-star rating.
Engines and Performance
Unlike the rest of BYD's illustrious line-up of vehicles, the Seal U DM-i isn't a battery electric vehicle (BEV). Instead, it's delivered with plug-in hybrid (PHEV) technology, giving drivers a mixture of efficiency and usable everyday range.
A 1.5-litre petrol engine does the majority of the lifting, but it's perfectly complemented by the onboard 18.3kWh Blade Battery. When driving using all-electric power only, you can expect up to 50 miles of range, making the Seal U DM-i perfect for the daily commute and school run.
Paired with the frugal petrol engine, owners can expect up to 314mpg (miles per gallon) in the entry level version, whilst the more powerful variant sacrifices efficiency for greater acceleration, but will still yield up to 235mpg.
