Vauxhall is bringing back the Frontera name, which will be making its reappearance on a new SUV later in 2024.
The company says the new model ‘will be a fun car with clever functional features’ and it will be available as a battery-electric vehicle from the start.
James Taylor, Vauxhall’s managing director, said: “The name ‘Frontera’ is ideally suited to our exciting new SUV model. It will have a confident character and be positioned right in the core of the market.”
Details are scant at the moment, but Vauxhall says it's targeting those with active lifestyles and families with the model, which it says will be offered at an ‘attractive’ price.
The arrival of the battery-electric variant of the new Frontera, along with the launch of the all-electric version of the next generation Grandland which is also scheduled for this year, will mark an important milestone in the British brand’s transition to becoming a fully electric brand.
Vauxhall will then offer at least one fully electric version across its entire car and van range.
The range of fully electric Vauxhall models available today already extends from the Corsa Electric, Mokka Electric, Astra Electric and Astra Sports Tourer Electric, to the new Combo Life Electric and Vivaro Life Electric.
In addition, battery-electric versions of the entire commercial vehicle portfolio are already available – including the Combo Electric, the Vivaro Electric and the Movano Electric.
The original Frontera SUV was produced from 1991 to 2003 and proved a popular model for the British brand.
Vauxhall says it will reveal more detailed information about the new Frontera in the coming weeks, but it's likely it will be replacing the Crossland SUV in its line-up.
