Introducing the Peugeot 308 Plug-in Hybrid and e-308
It may not be the biggest hatchback. It may not be the sportiest. But the new Peugeot E-308 shines as a neat and efficient - and fully electric - alternative to a conventional small/mid-size hatch. And it does it in style.
Not only does the new E-308 boast a beautifully slim design, it offers a truly dependable driving experience. The days of EV versions being gimmicky inferiors are well behind us. The E-308 is a confident and reliable electric hatchback any family will love.
Its real-world usability isn’t the only thing the E-308 has to offer. Peugeot’s new electric hatchback is packed to the brim with solid - even exceptional - specs and features. Let’s explore what’s really on offer with the Peugeot E-308.
Design and Practicality
The Peugeot E-308 sits in the C-segment class. But be in no doubt: the E-308 offers a noticeable design upgrade from any standard compact hatchback. Stylised shapes and textures prevail both inside and out.
The E-308’s exterior offers everything you’d expect from a new electric hatchback from Peugeot. Modern and sleek, with nicely integrated lights and a pleasing silhouette. Inside you’ll be greeted by a familiar (though modern) i-Cockpit” layout. The compact steering wheel that works seamlessly with other control features.
Let’s see some specs: the E-308 comes in at 4,367mm long, 1,859mm wide, and 1,441mm tall. It has plentiful space, too, with a 361-litre capacity - plenty for family luggage and weekly shopping!
Don’t expect the hefty compromises that often come with “budget” electric hatchbacks. The new E-308 is all about balance - electric practicality wrapped in a design that feels polished and contemporary. This balance makes it the perfect electric alternative for commuting, shopping, school runs, light travel, and more.
Technology and Safety
The new E-308 isn’t a tech frenzy. It doesn’t need to be. Peugeot knows E-308 drivers want practicality, so they’ve smartly included only the tech and safety specs that really matter. And luckily, they’ve hit the nail on the head.
Make no mistake there’s plenty of cool tech in the E-308. There’s a classy 10" HD touchscreen for navigation and media, plus full smartphone integration via Mirror Screen. There are some handy extras on higher trims, too, like remote monitoring of battery/charge status and remote cabin warming.
Those using the Peugeot E-308 as a family car will want one thing in particular: safety features. The E-308 is designed with this in mind. Just some of the noteworthy safety features include automatic emergency braking, lane keeping assist, blind spot monitoring, adaptive cruise control, automatic high-beam/LED headlamp tech, and parking aids.
You can also enjoy a fair few assistance features, too. Take, for example, the curve-adaptive speed recommendation. This sees the system itself suggest speed based on road curvature and conditions.
Range and Performance
The E-308 is all about efficiency. It offers a reassuringly mile-per-charge ratio and a solid, if sensible, top speed - backed by an 8-year (or 100,000-mile) guarantee.
Let's talk specs. The Peugeot E-308 has a 115 kW (≈ 156 hp) electric motor and around 270Nm of torque. Its top speed is about 106mph.
Of course, though, the big question is how well its electric battery performs. The E-308’s battery (54 kWh gross) gives a WLTP-rated all-electric range up to 258 miles. Newer variants have a slightly larger battery and therefore a longer range of about 279 miles - firmly on the higher end for a c-segment electric hatchback.
What this all means is that the E-308 isn’t going for sporty power - it’s going for reliability. The kind of reliability families need.
Charging
You’ll find the new E-308 a dependable EV for both long-distance trips and everyday run-arounds. Its standard type-2 connector supports up to 11 kW AC. At that level, the engine can charge fully in just 5 hours and 30 mins. Of course, for most home setups, an overnight charge will take several hours longer.
Rapid charging on longer journeys is no problem either. You can charge from 10-20% up to 80% in about 30 mins on a fast 100kW DC charger.
