Top 20 Scary UK Road Names
27th Oct 2014
With Halloween just around the corner, we thought we'd make you aware of a press release that the Ford Motor Company came out with in 2011, detailing the what were the scariest road names across the UK,. They sourced these names after trawling through the data in their satellite navigation systems.
Dr James Willoughby, a Historian at Oxford University, believes that while these names may appear scary now, they probably weren't intended to be when they were originally conceived. He said:
'Place-names derive usually from Old English words that were descriptive of the landscape the settlement sits in. They may look like modern words, but that's because they have changed their shape over the centuries.'
