Introducing the Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio
The Giulia receives an ultra-performance reworking in the form of the Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio, a 500bhp+ version of its popular sports saloon. From afar, the Quadrifoglio could be mistaken for its tamer stablemate, but a closer look reveals how Alfa Romeo's engineers have upgraded and refined the Giulia's blueprint into a true supersaloon.
It still retains the Giulia's signature fluid lines and Italian DNA, but is now further deepened by aerodynamic detailing and engineering-led performance upgrades that set it apart from its original guise.
For those who love the original design and its practical four-door-with-a-boot silhouette, but want something even more exhilarating, the Giulia Quadrifoglio is the obvious next step.
Engines and Performance
The Giulia Quadrifoglio is powered by a 2.9-litre V6 bi-turbo petrol engine outputting a forceful 513bhp, and can sprint from 0 to 62mph in 3.9 seconds, peaking at 191mph. It features an eight-speed ZF automatic gearbox with balanced ratios, and its rear-wheel drive power is delivered via a carbon fibre propshaft. Due to its enhanced performance, fuel economy is slightly lower than the standard Giulia, but a respectable 27mpg can still be achieved fairly easily.
The electronic locking differential in previous Quadrifoglio models has been upgraded to a mechanical, limited-slip differential for a more race-inspired experience, delivering more balanced handling when pushed, especially on track days.
It releases all that power through a pair of twin exhausts that emit a light purr, without being too intrusive, and even gets a throaty upgrade as you switch driving modes.
Chassis and Handling
Described as sensational by many of the world's best-known automotive journalists, the Giulia Quadrifoglio's driving experience embodies what Alfa Romeo's all about. Dynamic, sharp, and controlled, it's an incredibly engaging car to drive, while also riding rather smoothly in tamer times.
Various tweaks have been implemented such as tightened suspension that supports precision cornering and improved traction on exit, which is welcome given the power increase. The anti-roll bars have also been stiffened to improve driveability and agility, while weight has been reduced by installing aluminium and composite elements throughout the car's underbody.
The stars of the show are arguably the introduction of active aero within the front splitter and the electronic chassis management computer. The latter is the brain of the operations, ensuring seamless collaboration of all chassis components when spirited driving occurs.
Technology and Drive Modes
The same 12.3-inch digital driver display and central 8.8-inch infotainment system found in the standard Giulia is present, but subtle Quadrifoglio embellishments are present to set it apart. The driver display also has adjustable displays, including a 'Race' layout that shows shift-up lights when you're using the paddle controls in manual mode.
Aa 'DNA Pro' system offers four unique driving modes to suit your driving style. Advanced Efficiency focuses on relaxed, economical cruising, Natural covers everyday driving, and Dynamic sharpens the car’s responses. Select Race and the Giulia unleashes its full potential, recalibrating its core systems for maximum performance and a more focused drive.
The cabin layout features 3D-textured carbon panelling and includes a heated sports leather Quadrifoglio steering wheel with similar carbon detailing. The seats are top-spec for the ultimate in comfort and driving experience, with six-way electric adjustment plus four-way lumbar adjustment so you can get your perfect driving position.
