The Fiat Doblo, also known as the Doblo Cargo when referring to the panel van, or more recently in 2022/2023 as the Doblò, is a compact van that offers more space than you'd probably expect.
Having been around since 2000, it's perhaps one of Fiat's most recognisable models, and with it comes many variants and bodystyles.
Here, we will concentrate on the second generation which ran from 2010, until it was replaced in 2022 (having many facelifts along the way) by the third generation.

Economy, Towing, and Performance
Being a compact van, and using a 1.3-litre or 1.6-litre diesel engine mean the Fiat Doblo is pretty good when it comes to economy. Therefore, you should see over 50mpg, even by WLTP standards.
You can find petrol engines and larger diesel offerings but the aforementioned tend to be the most popular.
If you can, go for a model which isn't entry-level, as in terms of power they are fine around town but can become tiresome on a motorway. Steering is light and accurate however, meaning it's easy to drive and live with.
As for towing capability, unbraked towing ability is 750kg, as is the limit on all vans, whilst braked, the weight increases up to 1,500kg.
Bodystyles, Payload, and Capacity
Perhaps known as the Doblo, the Doblo Cargo refers to the panel van, whilst Doblo can relate to the passenger versions.
Either way, the Doblo comes in standard panel van guise, along with long-wheelbase and short-wheelbase models, as well as high and low roof versions, chassis cab and Combi alternatives, along with pickup variants and even specialist stuff like catering vans and the like.
Payload is 750g for the panel van, but some versions will have been upgraded to carry up to 1,005kg, so worth looking out for.
Dimensions for the panel vans are as follows:
- Maximum load length = 1,820mm for Standard Short Wheelbase and High Roof Short Wheelbase, whilst 2,170mm is available on the Maxi Long Wheelbase and XL High Roof Long Wheelbase.
- Maximum load height = 1,305mm for the Standard and Maxi versions, increasing to 1,550mm for the High Roof and XL versions.
- Maximum Load Width = 1,714mm across all versions.
Interior, Technology, and Safety
When looking at a used Doblo, if your budget can stretch to one of the later versions, you'll take advantage of a nicer interior. That said, although the Doblo interior is not amazing, it's neat and non-offensive. You get analogue dials and an analogue non-digital screen in most, whilst top spec or really late versions get a colour infotainment screen.
As a van, it more than does the job. If you like a no nonsense interior, the Doblo ticks all the boxes. There's some charm about its simplicity.
Tech is pretty old school, but models should come standard with electric windows, remote locking and hill hold. 'Tecnico' models will showcase the bare minimum to some with air-con, parking sensors and cruise control.
Safety is again simplistic with driver's airbag and parking sensors about as good as it gets.
Is the Fiat Doblo right for me?
The Fiat Doblo has been around for over two decades, and it shows with its analogue vibe.
It gets outshone by alternatives like the Ford Transit Connect and plusher VW Caddy.
This is perhaps why it has gone from an independent van (rare), to a van design shared with the Citroën Berlingo, Peugeot Partner and Vauxhall Combo from 2022 versions.
If however, you want an inexpensive no nonsense compact van, you may just find something simplistic about the Doblo.
