Although the two petrol engines offer similar performance and fuel economy, it's the smaller, 1.0-litre unit that's the most popular. The reason for that is because it's turbocharged whereas the larger engine isn't. As a result, the smaller engine provides more grunt from lower down in the rev range.
Practicality and Running Costs
With a generous amount of head and legroom, the MG ZS is well-suited to family life. The rear doors open widely, making it easy to fit a child's seat using the ISOFIX anchor points. Don't worry if your passengers are older though, there's ample room for two adults in the back, although a third would be a tight fit.
Impressively, the ZS offers 448 litres of boot space, which isn't far behind the larger MG HS (463 litres). Fold the rear seats down and you'll have 1,375 litres of luggage capacity at your disposal; ideal for tip runs.

Interior, Technology and Safety
MG clearly didn't get the memo that cheap cars usually get an interior to match because the ZS has a contemporary cabin design.
The simplistic layout of the controls ensure the dashboard doesn't look cluttered, while the infotainment touchscreen (not on 'Explore' models) is a welcome addition on a car at this price point.
Following a mid-life refresh in 2020, the ZS was made available in two specifications: 'Excite' and 'Exclusive'. The former is the entry-level model and comes with rear parking sensors, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, air-conditioning, and cruise control.
The top-spec 'Exclusive' variant comes with added luxuries such as a digital instrument cluster, rain sensing wipers, a panoramic sunroof, and a 360-degree parking camera.
The MG ZS comes with a host of safety features and driver aids, some of which include:
