The Mercedes-Benz EQV is a fully electric MPV that provides owners with discreet, luxurious transport for either family or business use. It launched in the UK in 2020, and depending on your driving style and the conditions, it's capable of travelling more than 200 miles on electric power.

Based on the V-Class, it's a large, handsome vehicle that can carry up to seven passengers as well as their luggage. There are a few main reasons why you'd consider buying a used EQV:

  • Spacious and practical
  • Room for seven adult passengers
  • Large boot space
  • Quiet on the road
  • Decent electric range

Range and Driving Experience

Used Mercedes-Benz EQV, Exterior, Driving

There's only one powertrain in the EQV, known as the EQV 300. The electric motor generates the equivalent of 201bhp, pushing the car from 0 to 62mph in 12.1 seconds and on to a top speed of 98mph. These are acceptable figures for a vehicle in this class, but don't expect any of the electric car acceleration thrills you might experience in a Tesla Model X, which also has seven seats.

The EQV has a range of up to 213 miles, and charging at home using a wallbox takes around 11 hours. Public rapid chargers can zap the EQV from 10 to 80 percent capacity in just 45 minutes.

On the whole the driving experience is very relaxed and serene. Usually with van-shaped vehicles there's a diesel engine grumbling away in the background, but the electric motors in the EQV barely make any sound at all during normal driving - you'll just hear the noise from the tyres on the road.

Practicality and Running Costs

Clearly the EQV is all about people moving, and it shows. Not only are there seven seats, there's also five ISOFIX points, so if you need to transport many children, the EQV has you covered. The second-row seats slide backwards and forwards as well as recline, making it easy for passengers to get comfy on a long journey.

Boot space is ginormous even with all the seven seats in place, and the rear bench can be removed entirely on the rare occasion you need any more room. The bench is quite heavy though, so you might need a friend to help you get it out. In the front, there's storage in the centre console and in the door bins.

Fuel costs are around a third lower than the equivalent V-Class thanks to electricity working out cheaper than diesel. Servicing costs are lower too, as there are fewer moving parts overall. Interior, Technology and Safety

In the front, the driver is treated to a nice comfortable seat that is high up, giving you a good view of the road ahead. EQV models don't get digital dials but you do have a 10.25-inch touchscreen display to play with, which houses a DAB radio and smartphone connectivity.

Automatic climate control, heated front seats, electric sliding doors and electric folding mirrors are some of the standard equipment highlights. Top spec cars get memory seats, Apple CarPlay/Android Auto, a table package and a 360° parking camera.

Mercedes-Benz have made the EQV as safe as possible, utilising advanced features such as:

  • Rear parking sensors and reversing camera
  • Blind spot monitoring
  • Traffic sign assist
  • Active brake assist

Is the Mercedes-Benz EQV right for me?

For transporting large groups of people around specific destinations where charging infrastructure is sufficient, there are few vehicles that do people-moving as well as the EQV. Whether for business or family use, it's equally adept in both scenarios.

There aren't lots of fully electric MPVs, but the Vauxhall Vivaro-E Life and Citroën ë-SpaceTourer are more affordable options. They're not quite as luxurious, and their maximum range is lower, but they are significantly cheaper to buy.
