The second generation BMW Z4 was produced between 2009 and 2016.
Entry-level 2.0-litre engines, badged sDrive20i, deliver great pace and economy, with over 40mpg being easily achievable, making them a great daily sports car. Those wanting the most performance will no doubt want the sDrive35i with its creamy 3.0-litre engine, capable of going from 0 to 62mph in 5.1 seconds.
Refinement and quality is high, as expected from a BMW. The metal folding roof eats into some of the 310-litre boot size, reducing to 180 litres when retracted. Overall though, cabin space is good, and despite the sports car recipe, the Z4 is also a good tourer.
With economy reaching over 40mpg in some variants and insurance groups around group 35, the Z4 isn't hugely expensive, although the larger 3.0-litre cars will warrant extra upkeep. Servicing can be carried out at any Evans Halshaw retailer, although for specialist care, we recommend Stratstone BMW.
If you want a more modern Z4, the later third-generation makes use of a fully-digital cockpit and an even fruitier M40i version.
