The 2-door Coupé variant has been on sale since 2015, while the Roadster and 4-Door Coupé joined in 2017 and 2019 respectively. Reasons to consider buying a used Mercedes-AMG GT include:

  • Monstrous performance
  • Atmospheric engine
  • Supreme style
  • Remarkable interior attention to detail

The engine has been designed to dominate the driving experience of any Mercedes-AMG car, and the GT is probably the best example of that. The 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 in the base model produces 456bhp, rising to 503bhp in GT S variants and 549bhp in later GT C versions. There's a 577bhp track-focused GT R model, too.

4-Door Coupé models badged '63' get 585bhp, which is more than you'll ever need on the road. With that said, there's also a '63 S' version with 639bhp that provides extraordinary levels of acceleration and overtaking prowess.

Power is delivered through an automatic gearbox in all variants; there's no manual version available

With 0 to 62mph in less than four seconds and rear-wheel drive, all AMG GTs are thrilling cars on the track, but through their selectable drive modes, can become comfortable and refined cruisers, too.

Practicality and Running Costs

With only two seats, Coupé and Roadster models aren't really designed for practicality, but the Coupé actually has a decent 350-litre boot capacity, the same as the one on the A-Class family hatch. The Roadster has less than half that amount, making it significantly less practical than cars such as the BMW M8 Convertible.

The GT 4-Door Coupé has a sizeable 456 litres to play with, only slightly less than a Porsche Panamera (495 litres). It seats four people as standard, but when the car was new buyers could specify a third seat in the back, so if you need room for five, look out for those on the used market.

Running costs are expensive on the Mercedes-Benz AMG GT. Servicing and replacement parts are at the top end of the price scale, and with cars like this it's important to keep on top of maintenance. Stratstone Mercedes-Benz dealerships are your best bet - they can provide the specialist care these cars deserve.

Interior, Technology and Safety

Just like the exterior, the interior of the AMG GT is a thing of beauty. The buttons and switches on the centre console are laid out in an ergonomic yet distinctive fashion, giving a sense of occasion every time you want to adjust the drive mode, activate launch control or turn up the exhaust volume.

Technology is good too; the central infotainment system housing your navigation, phone connectivity and vehicle settings. Keyless entry, heated memory seats, cruise control, Bluetooth and DAB radio are fitted to all AMG GT examples, as you would expect from a car at this price point.

Standard safety equipment includes:

  • 3-stage electronic stability program
  • High performance braking system
  • Anti-theft protection package
  • Autonomous emergency braking

Is the Mercedes-Benz AMG GT right for me?

The Mercedes-Benz AMG GT will suit those who seek supercar levels of performance but still want the luxury, refinement and everyday usability of a Mercedes-Benz. It's quiet and wafty when you need it to be, but also has the ability to make every journey a thrilling experience, if you're in the mood.

High performance coupés come in various shapes and sizes, but the main rivals for the GT include the BMW M8 (which has Convertible, Coupé and 4-door Grand Coupé bodystyles) and all-conquering Porsche 911. The Audi R8 is a mid-engined supercar alternative, too.
