Engines and Driving Experience

SUV stands for 'Sports Utility Vehicle', yet many are far from sporty. Fortunately, Jaguar sports car know-how has been sprinkled on the F-PACE. Therefore, this SUV offers an involving and sporty driving experience which delivers strong feedback, inspiring confidence and enjoyment.

Although this is an SUV, most of the time it acts like a rear-wheel drive car with little body roll.

The 2.0-litre diesel engines will suit most buyers. Neither are rapid but with 0 to 62mph between eight and ten seconds dependent on variant, neither feel slow. Petrol equivalents are available too, and offer slightly more performance, yet are not as economical.

If you want the very best, the 5.0-litre V8 SVR is the one to go for with 0 to 62mph taking just four seconds flat.

Practicality and Running Costs

A sizeable SUV of this nature is never going to have running costs similar to a supermini, however, running an F-PACE isn't as expensive as you may think.

You'll see up to 45mpg in diesel variants which is great for a car of this size, whilst petrol versions will return around 30mpg. Even the range-topping 5.0-litre V8 SVR can still return 23mpg, which isn't too bad considering the epic performance it possesses. It's worth looking out for later PHEV versions, which can offer mpg up to circa 100mpg.

As for practicality, there is a 613-litre boot space in the F-TYPE, meaning it offers more space than the BMW X4, Audi Q5 and Porsche Macan. However, the Mercedes-Benz GLE does offer slightly more at 630 litres.

Elsewhere, servicing is annually and can be taken care of at any Evans Halshaw, although Stratstone Jaguar should be used if you are looking for specialist care.

Interior, Technology and Safety

Early cars feature analogue dials with a striking central infotainment screen. Facelifted cars take the overall ambience to a whole new level. This is thanks to a striking Pivi Pro infotainment system and digital instrument display, along with striking contrasting leather choices which ensure the updated F-PACE is truly stunning on the interior, as it is on the exterior.

Facelifted cars also get a comprehensive standard spec including touchscreen infotainment, LED lights, cruise control and a 3D surround camera. Earlier Sport trims are worth looking at too, featuring enhanced styling and nicer leather choices.

As for safety, the Jaguar F-PACE received a five-star Euro NCAP safety rating, one of the reasons as to why it won the World Car of the Year award back in 2017. Autonomous emergency braking, lane departure warning and speed assist systems all come as standard.
