The Mercedes-Benz GL-Class is a supersized luxury SUV with seven seats. This second-generation version was on sale in the UK between 2013 to 2015, before being replaced by the more contemporary GLS.
Most used GL-Class models are fitted with a 3.0-litre BlueTEC diesel engine, which puts out a not insignificant 254bhp. This means 0 to 62 mph is dealt with in 7.6 seconds - decidedly spritely for a car of this size and weight - while fuel economy is reasonable with between 30 to 35 mpg possible.
AMG versions with huge petrol engines can be found too, but these are rare and expensive to run. Unless you really have the need for speed, the diesel is the obvious choice.
On the inside, the GL-Class is fairly opulent as you would expect for a car that cost over £70,000 when new. At 680 litres, the boot is massive even with all the seats in place, extending to 2,300 litres with them all folded flat into the floor.

It's a big, complex and expensive car so be prepared to shell out for replacement parts if there's an issue, plus even the diesel models are in insurance group 49.
