Fiat Fiorino

The Fiat Fiorino is a supermini-sized van that's more practical than that of a car-based van, like that of a Fiat Grande Punto Van or Ford Fiesta Van.

It came on the scene in 2008 and was updated in 2016 with newer, cleaner engines. Like many vans, it does look almost identical to a few others on the market, which in this case are the Peugeot Bipper and Citroën Nemo.

Interestingly, as of early 2023, the Fiorino can still be purchased new, whilst the Peugeot and Citroën were discontinued in 2017. Highlights of the Fiat Fiorino are listed below.

  • Great fuel economy
  • More practical than its size suggests
  • Fun to drive
  • Easy to drive
  • Chic styling

Economy, Towing, and Performance

Fiat Fiorino

Being a properly compact van, the Fiat Fiorino doesn't need lots of power, so it comes with a 1.3-litre diesel, with various power outputs, or 1.4-litre petrol engine is available too.

You'll see around 40mpg in the petrol, whilst the diesel can hit 70mpg, making the little Fiorino inexpensive when it comes to fill ups, no matter which engine you buy.

As for performance, the supermini dimensions mean it's actually quite fun to drive, and really easy to navigate in tight congested cities.

As for towing capability, the braked figure is 1,600kg, whilst unbraked is capped at 750kg like all vans.

Bodystyles, Payload, and Capacity

Fiat Fiorino

As for bodystyles available with the tiny Fiat Fiorino, you just get the regular compact panel van with a handful of engine choices as mentioned previous. You can get 5-seater and 4-seater versions though, which rob load area space but boost the ability to carry more people.

Payload therefore will differ depending on exact spec, but you should see up to 610kg for petrol models and up to 660kg for diesels.

Capacity is good, with the ability to fold passenger seats for extra space. The loadspace should fit a Euro-pallet with a 1,523mm loadspace available, whilst load height comes in at 1,205mm.

Interior, Technology, and Safety

Fiat Fiorino

The interior of the Fiat Fiorino feels like the company's supermini and passenger cars, so the controls are easy to figure out and dials are neat and familiar.

Of course, the higher spec you opt for the better your tech experience is going to be with the Fiat Fiorino. You can get sat-nav infotainment, but it's rather small and like many van drivers, you could just use a dedicated phone mount and cable for bluetooth/maps.

Safety is again spec dependent, so you'll get a driver's airbag as standard, electronic stability control and remote central locking. 'SX' models get the 5.0-inch touchscreen along with electric windows and mirrors.

'Tecnico' gets reverse parking sensors. Top spec 'Sportivo' models get cruise control, alloys, and a leather steering wheel.

Is the Fiat Fiorino right for me?

Many supermini style vans now can only be purchased used and the Fiat Fiorino is a great example of a chic little van that offers more practicality than a car-based van.

The Peugeot Bipper and Citroën Nemo are effectively the same van, so if you prefer those brands, they are worth checking out too.

However, many people may opt for that little bit more space and reputation, so vans like the Ford Transit Connect and VW Caddy are worth looking at if your budget allows.
