The UK's tyre safety awareness charity, TyreSafe, is launching its annual Tyre Safety Month Campaign today in a bid to tackle the numbers of dangerous and defective tyres on UK motorists' vehicles, because of the belief that safe tyres save lives.

October is statistically the wettest month of the year in Britain, making it even more important that your vehicles tyres are of a good standard and in good condition - otherwise your vehicle may not grip the road as well as it needs to.

The annual Tyre Safety Month campaign aims to get as many people possible thinking about their vehicle's tyres and having them checked out by a professional if needed.

As a TyreSafe member, Evans Halshaw offer Free Tyre Health Checks to anyone wishing to know whether or not their car or van's tyre or tyres need replacing. If it does, we can arrange that for you. If it doesn't, you can be on your way safe in the knowledge that the bits that keep your car on the road are working as they should.

Here's 5 quick tips to make sure your tyres are safe this month.

  1. Check your tyre pressures once a month - making sure they are what they need to be
  2. You can find the correct tyre pressure in your vehicle manual or at tyresafe.org
  3. Make sure your tread depth is above the legal limit of 1.6mm
  4. Pop a 20p coin into the tread of your tyre - if you can see the border it's time to replace
  5. If you see any cuts, bulges or any other type of damage - get your tyres checked by a professional.
