As if news of the electric Corsa-e wasn't enough, Vauxhall have now revealed the all-new fifth generation Corsa. It promises to be the most efficient, lightweight and fun-to-drive model yet, and given the Corsa's status as a bestseller in the UK, its arrival will be hotly-anticipated by a wide range of drivers. Let's take a look at the new features.

New Technology

The new Corsa offers new easy-to-use infotainment features comprising Multimedia Radio, Multimedia Navi with 7.0-inch colour touchscreen, and the top-of-the-range Multimedia Navi Pro with 10.0-inch colour touch screen. The latter two features provide satellite navigation with real-time traffic updates.

Corsa drivers will also drive in safer hands than ever before thanks to a range of driver assistance systems. This includes front collision warning with automatic emergency braking and pedestrian detection; intelligent speed control and limiter; lane keep assist and traffic sign recognition. There is also the added assurance of Vauxhall's new telematics system, Vauxhall Connect, which provides an emergency call button and direct link to breakdown assistance.

In addition, the all-new Corsa will be the first car in its class to feature adaptive, glare-free full-LED headlights. Called IntelliLux LED Matrix, this pioneering technology continuously adapts to prevailing conditions, cutting out approaching traffic from the illuminated area to minimise glare.

Lightweight & Dynamic

The engine line-up of the new Corsa is similar to the outgoing model in terms of output, but with the bonus of much improved efficiency, thanks to a new emissions reduction system. The engine range starts with the entry-level 1.2-litre petrol unit developing 74bhp, but the most tantalising engine is the award-winning three-cylinder, direct-injection turbocharged 1.2-litre (99bhp) unit. The direct-injection technology means the turbocharger reacts immediately when prompted, delivering a strong torque output (a maximum of 205Nm) at low revs. There is also a 1.5-litre diesel alternative with 99bhp and maximum torque of 250Nm.

The new Corsa is also much lighter than the outgoing model, with a weight loss of up to 108kg, and has excellent aerodynamics. These factors, combined with the strong torque output, mean the new Corsa offers highly engaging performance and handling. The driving experience is enhanced further by the transmission options, which include a five-speed manual (paired with the 74bhp unit) and the choice of a six-speed manual or smooth eight-speed automatic for the 99bhp unit. The latter uses Quickshift technology and allows drivers to shift gears themselves using paddles on the steering wheel.

The new Corsa will doubtless be on the wishlist of many drivers when it is released. Register your interest now to stay up-to-date with its release!
