The new EcoSport lands smack bang in the middle of a very crowded SUV segment, yet manages to stand out from the crowd rather convincingly. This success is heavily influenced by the Fiesta underpinnings, which is one of the UK's best sellers for good reason.

Driving Experience

You can tell when driving the EcoSport that Ford's engineers have really focused on ensuring the EcoSport doesn't lose any of the character that makes the Fiesta such a great car to live with and drive. Despite the larger size and loftier height, the EcoSport is well composed in the corners. Feedback through the steering wheel is good as you'd expect from Ford, with a well-weighted feel.

The addition of extra insulation and re-calibrated suspension settings make the EcoSport a great car for daily duties, it confidently irons out the worst bumps on Britain's roads without feeling like a boat. There is an efficient range of engines and gearboxes available, the award-winning 1.0-litre EcoBoost petrol engine is a thing of beauty and comes in two variants (123bhp and 138bhp respectively).

If you need something even more frugal and efficient than the brilliant EcoBoost engine, then you can select from two variations (99bhp and 123bhp) of Ford's 1.5-litre Duratorq diesel engine. The six-speed manual offered as standard is a slick unit, while the six-speed automatic offered in the 123bhp petrol variant offers excellent refinement.

The New Ecosport 2018 Interior

There has been a raft of improvements to the EcoSport's interior, the most notable is the new SYNC 3 infotainment system that takes centre stage. The top spec 8-inch touchscreen perches at the top of the centre console and is hard to fault - it processes inputs swiftly, has excellent graphics and has Apple CarPlay, DAB radio, Bluetooth for extra usability. A 6.5-inch is also available, which is more than up to the job for those who don't require the larger screen.

What we appreciate is the smaller details that really make the EcoSport stand out from the rest. The armrest can slide forward so you have somewhere to comfortably perch your left arm when driving, while there is a padded arm rest on the driver's door for additional comfort. The cruise control is smooth and easy to use while the seats are incredibly comfortable. The boot floor is completely movable, allowing you to create a completely flat floor when you have the rear seats down - the boot is even quite large at 355 litres.

Opt for the ST-Line trim and you get part-leather seats, a flat-bottomed steering wheel and ST-line scuff plates. It's also worth noting that the sound system is excellent, although we highly recommend the Bang & Olufsen 10 speaker upgrade considering how reasonably priced it is.
