The new Ford Focus has been reengineered, reworked and restyled to make it the most comprehensive Focus available to date. New both inside and out, it has a range of premium features and high equipment levels that really impress.
Plenty of styling changes have been made to the Focus, including a smart new grille design which brings it in to line with the Fiesta and Mondeo. A low, wide stance is complemented by alloy wheels which are standard on the Zetec model and above. A chrome grille features on the Titanium trim lines for a premium edge, whilst the Zetec S features a custom sports body kit with large rear spoiler, and LED Daytime running lights.
It's sleek and refined, but practical too. Boot space on the hatchback stands at 316 litres which increases to 1,101 litres with the seats folded down. The five-door configuration of the Focus also means there's ample space and easy access to the rear seats. Moving through to the dashboard, we see the fully redesigned centre console, smartly designed and focused on the driver.
The Zetec models and above include the intuitive Ford SYNC system with Bluetooth connectivity, as well as digital radio and air conditioning. The Zetec S builds on this, with keyless start, and sports seats and pedals to give the Focus a racing feel.
The luxurious Titanium model adds an impressive 8-inch touchscreen with Ford's SYNC 2 system, which can be controlled with simple voice commands to alter the climate control or audio settings. Cruise control, and handy features such as automatic headlights and wipers are included on this model too. The range-topping Titanium X model adds active park assist, a rear view camera, and partial leather heated front seats for ultimate comfort. Of course, all models include the Quickclear heated windscreen which makes scraping ice off your car a thing of the past.
Across the Focus range there are over 20 different engine options - ensuring there's something for everybody on offer. Stand-out performers include the 1.0 litre 125PS Ecoboost engine, which offers more than enough performance for everyday use, but also achieves under 99 g/km C02 emissions and over 60 miles to the gallon. The 1.5 TDCi 120 diesel offers similarly strong performance with a combined economy of 74.3 mpg.
The Focus is safe too, with a full five-star Euro NCAP Safety rating. A complement of airbags, and useful features such as hill start assist are standard across the range. Titanium X trim includes Active City Stop, which can prevent collisions in slow moving traffic up to 30mph by automatically applying the brakes.
The Ford Focus remains the most popular and critically acclaimed family hatchback with a raft of new updates. New looks are backed up by a strong equipment list and a premium feel to rival more expensive cars.
