The Citroen C4 hit showrooms in 2011 and had an early update in 2015 to give it cleaner engines, a revised styling and more standard kit - adding more colours, new alloy wheels and revised headlights and taillights.
Under the bonnet, there is a wide range of engine choices, including the BlueHDi-engine and PureTech petrol engine. The 1.6-litre BlueHDi 100 with Stop/Start proves to be very economical, with 86mpg and a tax-busting 86g/km of C02. The petrol Puretech 110, though not as economical, returns an impressive 60mpg, thanks to the six-speed gearbox.
The interior of the 2015 hatchback feels very spacious, with a button-free touchscreen infotainment system and removing any unnecessary buttons on the steering wheel, giving the cruise control and stereo volume easy access. All models feature air conditioning, electric front windows, and the Flair model gets tinted rear windows, chrome door mirrors and front fog lights. The Citroen C4 has many cubbies and storage bins in the cabin and also benefits from a large, 408-litre boot.
Staying safe is no problem in the Citroen C4, as it was awarded five stars for the Euro NCAP crash safety tests. The C4 has six airbags as standard and the Citroen eTouch service allows you to call and be located by emergency services if you have an accident or break down.
Overall, the Citroen C4 is a very clean and spacious hatchback, with great fuel economy. Its reliability, spaciousness and use of in-car technology makes the C4 an attractive hatchback.
