The original Renault Captur was sold between 2013 and 2019. It was a trailblazer in the rise of small SUV popularity.
SUVs are now the somewhat default choice for many people's next vehicle. Chunky looks and eye-catching style, not to mention enhanced practicality have all played their part, and now, this second-generation Captur has taken the success of the original and enhanced it even further.
Renault has made this model a bit bigger, inside and out, along with making it more modern and better to drive. On the face of it, the second-generation Captur offers:

Engines and Driving Experience
This generation of Captur shares the same underpinnings as its Renault Clio sibling. It's therefore lighter than before, despite being bigger, and it's also stiffer as well. When a car is made lighter or stiffer, these tend to enhance the driving experience and the Captur is no different. The steering feel is better than before, too.
Although don't go thinking this is some stiff and harsh-riding SUV; Renault have made sure the suspension is soft to soak up bumps and aid comfort.
As for engine choice, a small 1.0-litre petrol offers 98bhp, while a more potent 1.3-litre gives 128bhp. The latter takes around 10 seconds for the 0 to 62mph sprint, whilst the former takes a few seconds more. The 1.0-litre will return around 47mpg, whilst the larger 1.3-litre will return around 44mpg.
Those doing larger mileage may opt for the 1.5-litre diesel, as it offers similar performance and better economy, with 58mpg possible. Finally a 1.6-litre petrol/electric motor and 9.8kWh battery form the plug-in hybrid version, which again offers similar performance, despite the increased weight. It offers the best economy though, with an ultra-impressive 188mpg possible.
Practicality and Running Costs
Practicality is excellent, as the Captur offers 404 litres of boot space, which increases to 536 litres thanks to the trick sliding rear bench. For comparison, a Nissan Juke offers 422 litres, whilst a Citroën C3 Aircross offers 520 litres. That clever rear bench coming in handy for sure.
It's worth noting that Diesel and hybrid models do lose a bit of standard boot space, with the 388 litres and 379 litres respectively due to their extra hardware being housed under the boot floor.
As for overall running costs, the Captur offers decent economy meaning fuel costs wont be high, along with having reasonable servicing costs, which can be taken care of at any Evans Halshaw Renault dealer.
Interior, Technology and Safety
If you have ever experienced a fifth-generation Renault Clio, then this second-generation Renault Captur will seem familiar, as they share similarities in style and execution. It's all good though, with the Captur feeling much more upmarket than the first-generation Captur.
Standard features are impressive, with entry-level Play models coming with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, as well as adaptive cruise control. Iconic models get sat-nav and rear parking sensors.
Fully digital instrument clusters come in range-topping S models, although the standard analogue dials look modern and are beautifully clear and crisp.
A full five-star safety classification from Euro NCAP means you don't have to worry about how safe the Captur is either, with autonomous emergency braking, lane-keeping assist, traffic-sign recognition and 360-degree camera all featuring within the range.
