The Nissan Micra is a smart-looking supermini that makes a great choice for young families who value affordability and good levels of refinement.
Seasoned motorists will remember the days when previous generations of the Micra were small and spartan inside. Times have changed, and this generation of Micra now represents a handsome supermini that is generously equipped.
There's certainly plenty of reasons to consider this generation of Nissan Micra:

Engines and Driving Experience
Those looking for a solid all-round driving experience should consider the Micra. It doesn't feel too stiff on uneven road surfaces, but firms up nicely when travelling at speed. A Ford Fiesta offers a sharper drive, but the Micra feels more at home in congested areas.
A 0.9-litre turbocharged petrol is available with 90bhp and will return close to 59mpg according to official figures, although it's the later 1.0-litre turbocharged unit, which is available with 99 or 115bhp, that impresses thanks to its flexible power delivery. Expect over 50mpg from these engines with minimal effort. A non-turbo 1.0-litre with 70bhp can be selected, but this is best reserved for regular city driving.
A sole 1.5-litre diesel engine exists and will achieve north of 80mpg on longer journeys. All the grunt is available at lower revs, which makes for swift progress on motorways with little input.
Practicality and Running Costs
The Micra is only available with 5-doors, which makes it easy to gain access to the rear. ISOFIX anchor points feature in the front and back of the car for maximum convenience, making it straightforward to fit a child's seat. There's more space in the cabin compared to the previous generation Micra, meaning you're unlikely get any complaints from passengers.
With 300 litres at your disposal, the Micra's boot is a good size and will comfortably carry the weekly food shop with little bother. Rivals, such as the Volkswagen Polo, do have a bigger boot though, so it depends on how much space you need.

Interior, Technology and Safety
Refinement is excellent inside the Micra. Features such as the acoustic windscreen ensure road noise is kept at bay, while the car's width ensures there's plenty of shoulder space.
Entry-level models get Bluetooth and a 2-speaker stereo as standard. We'd recommend looking for an Acenta model, which features cruise control, DAB radio, and a 7-inch infotainment system that comes with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

If you're feeling plush, then the range-topping Tekna comes with a Bose stereo, rear parking sensors and rear-view camera. Finally, there's the N-Sport, which comes with 17-inch alloy wheels, lowered suspension and part-leather seats.
