Engines and Driving Experience
The Mondeo is known for its ability to undertake great mileage - usually on a motorway or A-road, so therefore comes with a lot of economical diesel engine choices. There is a few EcoBoost petrol engines available, along with a petrol hybrid too.
Various 2.0-litre diesel units, available as a TDCi or EcoBlue deliver between 40 and 60mpg. A 1.0-litre EcoBoost petrol is also available and although not the punchiest of engines, it can return over 50mpg according to pre-2017 test standards. The Hybrid Petrol is the most economical, able to return around 120mpg.
Comfort is top priority in the Mondeo. Therefore the ride on a typical British road is excellent and irons out many poor road surfaces with ease - hence the Mondeo's workhorse reputation, and why a lot of Mondeos are used for company cars.
Practicality and Running Costs
Three spacious body styles are available when considering a Mondeo for your next used car. The most popular is the Mondeo Hatchback. Although it may not look like a conventional hatchback, it features a useful hatchback boot, which offers 550 litres of space. Fold the rear seats and this increases to 1,466 litres.
The Estate is the second most popular body style with a surprising 525 litres of boot space - 25 litres less than the Mondeo Hatchback. However, the Estate has the biggest space with the seats folded, offering 1,630 litres. Saloon models offer 525 litres of boot space too, which is decreased to 383 litres when choosing the petrol hybrid engine. Unfortunately the rear seats cannot be folded flat in the Mondeo Saloon.

Interior, Technology and Safety
Interior space is capacious in the Mondeo, and can seat five adults with absolute ease and comfort. The dashboard and overall style of the cabin is simplistic and robust, with decent build quality.
Technology is good too, with a large 8-inch digital infotainment screen, along with clear analogue dials - with complementing digital screens within them. Certain models also come with cool safety technology such as Pre-collision assist, pedestrian and cyclist detection, Traffic Sign Recognition, Lane Keeping Aid and Automatic headlights.
With a good standard of technology and safety tech, it comes as no surprise that the Mondeo was awarded the full five stars in its EURO NCAP safety rating.
