When Ford first announced that they were making the Ford GT, which took inspiration from the Ford GT40 race cars of the 1960's - which went on to accomplish significant Le Mans success, the Ford GT was always destined to be greatly received.
Ford are perhaps best known for creating quality family vehicles and popular hatchbacks such as the Ford Focus and Fiesta. Therefore, when Ford introduced the GT it was undoubtable the halo car for the company as it was so beyond what consumers were used to seeing from Ford. Ford have since pushed the envelope further and introduced the new Ford GT second generation.
With customer's cars, yet to be delivered, the chance of seeing a new second generation Ford GT is almost impossible, unless you have been lucky enough to see examples at motor shows and racing circuits.
Evans Halshaw Old Trafford have been lucky enough to secure an example of the second-generation Ford GT Race Car, which is a replica of the cars which have been competing in various race events including Le Mans - fifty years after the GT40's Le Mans success.
Powered by a twin-turbocharged EcoBoost V6 delivering 500ps (approx. 493bhp) with 500Nm or torque, sent through a six-speed sequential transmission with a lightweight carbon and aluminium chassis, this is a serious piece of kit. To stop this beast, high performance brakes are needed. The Ford GT race car therefore has six pot front Brembo calipers upfront complete with Brembo discs, with four pit rear calipers on the rear again with vented Brembo discs. The Ford GT race car is attached to the track via 18" wheels front and rear wrapped in Michelin rubber.
The car will be available to view at Evans Halshaw Old Trafford from 9am on Monday 23rd January 2017 until midday Tuesday 24th January. Anyone is welcome to come along and view/take pictures of the car.
See you there!
