Introducing the Hyundai i30
The Hyundai i30 is a mid-sized family hatchback that has undergone a complete refresh, including a sharper appearance and more advanced technologies.
When it was launched, the original i30 was celebrated for offering excellent levels of practicality and reliability while simultaneously representing superb value for money. Successors followed the same recipe, but brought visual enhancements, better driving dynamics and increased safety equipment.
Building on the popularity of previous generations, the i30 promises to be a step into the future thanks to the introduction of a mild hybrid drivetrain, which has been engineered to reduce fuel consumption and CO2 emissions.
Design and Practicality
Available in three bodystyles; hatchback, fastback (pictured left) and tourer, the i30 boasts a wider stance and more contemporary features that are designed to emphasise the greater agility the car now has.
Regardless of shape, each i30 comes with five doors for maximum convenience, while a number of alloy wheel designs and exterior colours finish off the handsome aesthetics.
'N Line' models are perfect if you're after an i30 that looks more purposeful. The larger wheels, sportier exterior features and improved aerodynamics are likely to get a second glance from pedestrians as you drive by.
Depending on which bodystyle you go for, boot space ranges between 395 and 602 litres with the seats up, although this grows to between 1,301 and 1,650 litres with the seats folded down.
Technology and Safety
Hyundai have introduced a new 7-inch digital instrument cluster as well as a new 10.25-inch navigation touchscreen, which can be swiftly navigated using the vibrant menus and illuminated short cut icons below the screen.
i30 includes Hyundai's Bluelink technology for the first time, which offers a wide range of connected car services that ultimately provide a number of benefits. Features include:
- Live Services: real-time traffic provided by TomTom
- Online voice recognition
- Remote services: driver can lock the car remotely
- Find My Car: allows the driver to easily locate their vehicle
Available with a number of safety features you can trust, driving i30 is a relaxing experience. Notable features include Lane Following Assist, Rear Collision-avoidance Assist, Blind Spot Detection, Driver Attention Warning and Lane Keeping Assist.
Engines and Performance
The Hyundai i30 is available with either a petrol or diesel engine, all featuring 48-volt mild hybrid technology.
Kicking off proceedings is a new 1.0-litre turbocharged petrol unit that produces 118bhp and comes mated with either a 6-speed Intelligent Manual Transmission (iMT) or the optional 7-speed Dual Clutch Transmission (DCT)
Offering superb fuel economy and excellent refinement, the 1.6-litre diesel engine is also available. The 134bhp unit comes with the choice between a slick 6-speed manual gearbox or a clever 7-speed DCT.
Topping the range is a turbocharged 1.5-litre petrol engine that produces a healthy 157bhp. This powerful unit is exclusive to the 'N Line' trim, which also offers suspension enhancements over the rest of the range.
