The 308 comes with an impressive range of engines, including the new 1.2 litre Puretech turbocharged petrol unit. This manages to return over 61 mpg on the combined cycle, and just 107 g/km CO2, yet provides 129 bhp for a flexible, sharp response that goes well with the 308's strong driving characteristics. This engine is available in both automatic and manual, and features stop/start as standard.

A 1.6 diesel engine is also available in a range of outputs, from 92 bhp to 120 bhp. The 1.6 BlueHDI 120 is the most powerful of all the diesel engines, and also offers the best fuel economy figure at over 88 mpg. The range of engines on offer provide strong performance but also great refinement and fuel consumption.

Inside, the 308 Active boasts a range of features over the Access model, including a 9.7" multifunction colour touch screen. This puts you in control of the 308's many features including DAB digital radio, USB interface, Bluetooth connectivity, rear parking sensors, automatic headlights and wipers and satellite navigation as standard.

Keeping both sides of the car comfortable, this model features dual-zone air conditioning, as well as a cooled glove box ideal for keeping drinks in during the warmer weather. For ease of use there is an electric handbrake, whilst rear parking sensors make parking in the tightest of spots a breeze. The interior has a real premium feel, with a leather steering wheel and gearstick, and driver lumbar support.

The 308 received a full five-star Euro NCAP rating for its excellent safety features. A comprehensive range of airbags is rounded off with a speed limiter and cruise control. The Active also features automatic headlights and windscreen wipers.

The 470-litre boot is larger than that in a Ford Focus or even Volkswagen Golf. Combine this with a comfortable ride, ample room for five, and plenty of equipment and the 308 Active might just be the ideal family hatchback.
